Bats get into a house through gaps as small as 3/8 of an inch. We start with a full inspection of the building envelope — soffit and fascia gaps, ridge and gable vents, chimney flashing, lifted or loose siding, and the junctions where rooflines meet — and we document every opening we find, not just the obvious one.
The fix is carpentry. We repair soffit and fascia, screen gable and ridge vents, install chimney caps, correct flashing and ridge-vent detailing, and seal the gaps that let bats in. Where bats are still using the structure, we fit one-way exclusion devices over the active entry points so the colony can leave on its own and can't get back in. Once the building is clear, those last openings get closed permanently.
Bats leave a mess behind them. We remove soiled insulation, clean up the affected area, and re-insulate so the attic performs the way it should. Where guano and trapped moisture have damaged decking, framing, or drywall, we repair that too.
Timing matters in Michigan. Bats here are protected, and from roughly June 1 through August 15 there are flightless pups in the roost. Sealing a building in that window traps them inside, so we schedule exclusion work outside the maternity season. If you call us in midsummer, we'll tell you that straight and get you on the calendar for late summer or fall.
We come back and verify the exclusion held — that's part of the job, not an add-on. One thing we're clear about: we're a general contractor, so our work here is the building side of the problem — inspection, sealing, exclusion, repair, and restoration. We don't trap or handle wildlife, and if your situation calls for a licensed wildlife control operator, we'll tell you that too.
